Service definition
The cleanest way to understand the difference is by where the line of responsibility sits.
Self-Managed
We keep the server running. You manage everything on it.
We deliver a running server with a clean operating system, dedicated IP, DDoS protection and daily backups. From there, the server is yours to configure, secure, update and maintain.
Line of responsibility
Managed
We run the entire server for you. You just deploy your application.
We handle the operating system, security, updates, control panel, web server, database, monitoring and performance. You deploy your application and use it — we handle everything underneath.
Responsibility matrix
Who handles what.
The dividing line is the operating system. Self-Managed hands the customer everything above the OS; Managed extends our responsibility up to (but not including) the customer's application.

Critical boundaries
Three boundaries that prevent disputes.
01
Backups vs. restores are different
We take backups for both tiers — it is a free feature. The difference is who performs the restore. Self-Managed: the customer restores themselves through the panel. Managed: they open a ticket and we do it.
02
Support scope, not support existence
Both tiers get support — the difference is what the support covers. Self-Managed support answers "is the hardware and network up?" Managed support answers "is anything on the server misbehaving?" A Self-Managed customer asking about slow MySQL is directed to our hourly External Support; a Managed customer gets it fixed as part of their plan.
03
The application layer is never included
Even on Managed, we do not debug the customer's website code or fix their broken plugins for free. We diagnose far enough to confirm the server is healthy, then hand it back to them — or quote External Support to fix the application. This boundary protects margins and keeps the definition objective.
Free migration
Already hosted somewhere else? We move you in — free.
Our team handles the migration end-to-end: file transfer, database sync, email migration, DNS cutover. Zero downtime, no risk to your live site.
